Adobe’s new Firefly AI assistant can use Creative Cloud apps to complete tasks

Adobe has transformed its experimental Project Moonlight into a production-ready AI assistant that can orchestrate creative workflows across its entire Creative Cloud ecosystem. The newly launched Firefly AI Assistant will enter public beta within weeks, giving users the ability to direct complex creative projects through natural language commands while the system handles execution across Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Illustrator, and other Adobe applications.

The assistant represents a significant evolution beyond simple AI image generation, functioning as an intelligent coordinator that can manage multi-step creative processes. Users can interrupt and guide the workflow at any point, while the system learns individual preferences and offers contextual recommendations tailored to specific projects. Adobe has equipped the assistant with pre-built capabilities like social media asset optimization, handling intricate workflows that previously required manual navigation between multiple applications and tools.

This unified approach positions Adobe strategically against emerging competition from Canva and Figma, both developing their own agentic AI capabilities. While Adobe hasn’t disclosed separate pricing structures beyond its existing Firefly credit system, the company is simultaneously expanding the platform’s video editing functions and incorporating third-party AI models like Kling 3.0 to broaden its creative arsenal.

The launch signals Adobe’s recognition that creative professionals need AI systems that understand entire project lifecycles rather than isolated tasks. By building an assistant that can seamlessly orchestrate work across its dominant creative software suite, Adobe is establishing a new standard for how AI agents integrate into professional creative workflows, potentially making cross-application creative intelligence a baseline expectation rather than a premium feature.
