Citizen developers now have their own Wingman

Emergent has released Wingman, an autonomous AI agent that enables business users without programming skills to automate routine tasks across popular workplace applications. The platform allows users to deploy multiple AI agents that can handle everything from email management to customer relationship system updates, operating continuously in the background without human oversight.

The company addresses a critical concern plaguing autonomous AI systems by implementing what it calls “trust boundaries.” These safeguards prevent Wingman from performing potentially destructive actions such as deleting data or sending mass messages without first securing explicit human permission. This approach tackles one of the most significant barriers to enterprise AI adoption—the fear that automated systems might cause irreversible damage to business operations or relationships.

Built on advanced language models from OpenAI and Anthropic, Wingman represents the latest evolution in citizen development tools that promise to eliminate the technical barriers between business users and software automation. Emergent claims its broader platform has attracted eight million business founders across 190 countries, suggesting substantial demand for no-code automation solutions. The service launches with pricing beginning at twenty dollars monthly, positioning it as an accessible entry point for small businesses and individual entrepreneurs.

CEO Mukund Jha frames the product as creating an “always-on team” for users who lack the resources to hire additional staff or technical expertise to build custom automation tools. The platform supports integration with widely-used business applications including WhatsApp and various customer management systems, targeting the daily operational tasks that consume significant time for business owners and managers.

Wingman’s launch signals a maturation in AI tooling where safety mechanisms and user accessibility converge to make autonomous agents viable for mainstream business adoption.
