Researchers at UCLA just developed SLIViT, (really, they couldn’t find a better name), a new AI model that can analyze complex 3D medical scans with expert-level accuracy in a fraction of the time required by human specialists. The SLice Integration by Vision Transformer can analyze various 3D imaging types, including MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds with clinical expert accuracy, some 5,000 times quicker than a human using a framework that leverages transfer learning, using prior knowledge from 2D medical data for efficient training with smaller 3D datasetsand needing only hundreds of training samples, making it more practical for specifica applications in the real-world. The growing demand for faster diagnostics is a potential game-changer for healthcare, potentially democratizing expert medical imaging.
