Chrome gets one-click prompts

Google has rolled out Skills, a new Chrome feature that transforms how users interact with Gemini AI by converting frequently used prompts into one-click shortcuts. Rather than typing the same commands repeatedly, users can now save custom AI workflows and access a curated library of pre-built tasks, marking another step in Google’s systematic embedding of artificial intelligence throughout its browser ecosystem.

The launch comes as tech giants race to streamline AI interactions for mainstream adoption. Skills addresses a fundamental friction point in AI usage—the repetitive nature of prompt engineering—by allowing users to build personalized automation without technical expertise. This practical innovation could accelerate AI adoption among casual users who found traditional prompt-based interfaces cumbersome.

Meanwhile, Anthropic has taken a strikingly different approach with Claude Mythos, its latest AI model that remains locked away from public access. Internal testing revealed the system’s ability to identify and exploit hundreds of software vulnerabilities, dramatically surpassing the capabilities of Anthropic’s previous Opus 4.6 model. The company is deliberately restricting access to technology leaders who can help fortify security defenses before any broader release.

Anthropic’s cautious strategy echoes OpenAI’s controlled deployment philosophy but stands in sharp contrast to the typical Silicon Valley rush to market. The company appears willing to sacrifice potential revenue and market advantage to prevent misuse of what it clearly views as dangerously capable technology. This measured approach extends beyond corporate responsibility into genuine uncertainty about managing AI systems that can autonomously discover and weaponize security flaws.

These parallel developments illuminate AI’s dual trajectory—toward seamless consumer integration on one hand and increasingly powerful capabilities that demand unprecedented caution on the other.
